Henrietta MitchellAt the recent National Track Champs Henrietta Mitchell acheived fantastic results; 4th in the Kerien, Silver in the Match Sprint, Silver in the 500 Time Trail and Gold in the Team Sprint.
She also set 2 National Records, 11.7 in the Flying 200 and 35.8 in the Team Sprint. She is now in an elite athlete camp with Bike NZ vying for selection to the Junior World Champs to be held in Italy in July/August.
On a global scale, Henrietta has been selected to attend a JKA Keirin School in Tokyo, Japan. This is the first time a NZ women has been selected to attend and Henrietta is only the second ever NZ athlete to be given this honour and opportunity.
This is a very prestigious as Keirin racing is a National Sport and is bigger than Horse racing in terms of crowds and winnings (yes it is bet on). Henrietta will have 6 days (12 hours of classroom learning on the Keirin, its history, tactis , fitness). She will get to meet with the greats of the sport and then Race for 3 days at a National meet in the womens event alongside the men. They expect crowds in the thousands, it is also broadcast live nationally throughout Japan. Henrietta will also be interviewed and appear on a Japanese version of Oprah. There is a possibility that Henrietta may also be invited back to race professionally.
Congratualtions to Henrietta and her family on these fantastic results.
