Thinking About Future Pathways
In weeks 1, 2 and 3 of Term 3, your daughter in consultation with yourself and the College needs to decide what Learning Areas she would like to study in 2012.
A PDF of the 2012 Curriculum booklet is found on the right of this page. Learning Area forms will be given out to your daughter on Monday, 1st August during homeroom. If your daughter misplaces her form, copies can be downloaded from the right of this page.
All Learning Area forms are due to the Homeroom teacher by Monday, 22nd August (start of week four). It is essential that this deadline is adhered too, as the 2012 timetable will start to be formulated the following week.
We encourage you, as your daughter’s caregiver, to discuss your daughter’s options for 2012 with her in order to ensure that she is planning an appropriate programme to meet her learning strengths, interests, passions and her talents. It is vital that the girls look carefully at the learning pathways for each Learning Area so that she can make sound choices to help her achieve her career goals, remembering to explore a range of career possibilities. At the Year 9-11 stage, your daughter should be keeping her options open – a broad range is the best. The Curriculum booklet explains the College’s philosophy on Teaching and Learning, the New Zealand Curriculum and NCEA and University qualifications structures. A useful website to explore is www.careers.govt.nz or contact our College careers advisor Ms Karen Lorimer at klorimer@baradene.school.nz or 524 6019 Ext 682.
