Sporting Codes Available

 

 

Baradene offers many sporting codes.  The main sporting codes are outlined below with the relevant information.  We also provide the opportunity for girls to compete in minor codes should they be interested and need to come and visit us in the sport department should they be interested.  These codes include:

Major Sporting Codes 

ATHLETICS

Season:

Feb, March, April, December

School Athletics:

Years 7-13 – 18th February 2010.

Held at the Towers Track, Mt Smart. The whole school has the opportunity to enter.

Year 7/8 will have a second Athletics day closer to their Eastern Zone competition date in December if time does not permit all events to be run in February.  

AKSS Girls Qualifying

Meet:

An athletics team is selected from the school athletics day to compete on Monday 1st  March, 9.00 am – 3.00 pm at Towers Track, Mt Smart.

AKSS Athletics

Championship:

Successful athletes then go on to the Champions of Champions twilight meeting on Monday 8th March, 4.00pm – 6.30pm at Towers Track, Mt Smart.

Separate 3000m walk, 3000m run, 300m hurdles, pole vaulting are also held Wednesday 10th March.

NISS Champs:

The North Island Championship will be held on the Saturday 20th  – Sunday 21st April, in Wellington

NZSS Track and Field Championship:

Year 7/8:

Held at the end of Term 4 – for elite athletes.

Saturday 11th  – Sunday 12th December, Hastings

Will be selected to go the Eastern Zone competition based on their respective performances at the school athletics day.

Girls must be collected from the venue by 5.00pm.

As cross country is an individual sport, it is the responsibility of the student to come to the sport department to enter the event two weeks prior to the race.

Students will also be selected for the Championship teams based on their school cross country results.

7 team time trials on Waterfront on Sunday mornings.

NI Cycling Champs:

North Island time trial and individual road race in Gordonton, Ngaruawhaia, Sat 3rd July & Sun 4th July

NZSS Individual Championships:

NZ individual hill climb, time trial and criterium championships at Mt Wellington.

DRAGON BOAT RACING

Only available to year 13 students, entries taken on a “First in, first served” basis.

Year 7/8:

Form a Baradene Team, but the competition is organised through the Central United Football Club; the team play on Saturdays over the winter season. The top year 7/8 team will be selected to compete in the Eastern Zone Tournament.

Weekly netball competition is organised by Auckland Netball Centre; which is the venue where all games are played throughout the winter season on a Tuesday afternoon. The top year 7 and year 8 teams will be selected to participate in the Eastern Zone competition, and any exchanges between Baradene and other schools.

 

ROWING

Season:

May to March.  Novice rowers very welcome.

Training Commitment:

Fitness training - May to December - Mon and Weds 6.00pm - 7.30pm

Rowing training - Begins in October - 4 times a week - increases to 5 to 6 times a week from January. 

Training Camp:

A compulsory 7 day training camp is held in early January.

Events:

Students are required to compete in various regattas from October to March

Main Events:

AKSS Head of Harbour - Saturday 13th February at Lake Pupuke

NISS Championships - Fri 12th March to Sun 14th March at Lake Karapiro

NZSS Championships (Maadi Cup)  - Mon 22nd March to 27th March, lake Ruataniwha, Twizel

Estimated Cost:

Total is between $2400 and $2800 depending on the Mardi Cup Location.  Location alternates between the North and South Island. (2010 – Twizel)

Cost is paid in instalments and is reduced by fundraising.

Uniform:

School Rowing Strip and Baradene socks.

SKIING

Entry:

See the Sports Coordinator in the sports office to register interest for these events.  Notices will be advertised to the girls prior to these events.  

Events:

The North Island Secondary Schools Ski Championships held at Ohakune,

Sunday 12th – 15th September

Divisions:

Junior women – Under 16 years old

Senior women – 16 years and older

Skiing Ability:

Trials:

The competition consists of a timed slalom and a dual slalom

The courses will be set for competent skiers who may have had no previous experience with gates.

May be held at Snow Planet, Silverdale

There will also be additional accommodation costs

School skiing polar fleece (brought by each skier)

**A training / trial weekend will be held prior to the competition if there is a need, user pays.

Approximately $150.00 / per term – dependent on tournament entry fees, training hours, coaching.  Girls are invoiced at the completion of each term.    

Competition Venues

Various Aquatic Centres in Auckland

Uniform:

Baradene swimsuit. Student may wear own (dark) swimsuit upon request.

Year 7/8:

The competition is run through Waterpolo New Zealand. Games are played during terms 3 and 4 on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Trainings will start pre-season, and are held at the Sacred Heart Aquatic Centre. There are also a number of tournaments and one day events that the teams are able to enter.
