Qualification
NCEA – Level 1

Course Outline

Level 1 Music aims to provide students with skills in performances, composition, score reading, aural and music research and analysis.
Students will be given the opportunity to gain Unit Standard in the Aural recall and several Achievement Standards in the following topics: Solo Performance, Group Performance, Composition in Classical style or Pop Song-writing style, Aural Skills, Score Reading and demonstrate knowledge of Music Works by Western and New Zealand composers. Students will have access to music-writing software and will be expected to be involved in a music group in the school.

Prerequisite
All students are required to take instrumental/vocal lessons. Year 10 Music or Grade 3 theory and practical or equivalent is strongly recommended, or at the discretion of the Director of Music.
