WELCOME TO COUNSELLING

OUR SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELLORS

We have two school counsellors who offer a confidential and professional service to the students, parents and staff of Baradene College.
Both are members of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors and are bound by confidentiality.

Trish Tutty, BSocP (Counseling) works full-time (524 6019 x671).

Mrs Philomena Pinto, MA, Dip’s Guidance & Counselling & Teaching, works Mondays and Fridays ((524 6019 x716)

We work with students individually as well as with their peers and family and can act as their advocate with teachers and deans.  We are available by phone and operate an appointment system.

WHAT HAPPENS IN COUNSELLING ("School Counselling", NZAC):

In counselling you can talk about problems and concerns in a safe place with someone who will support you.  You are entitled to a counsellor

  • Whom you can trust
  • Who listens carefully and sensitively
  • Who is non-judgemental and will not blame you for the problem
  • Who will try to see things from your point of view
  • Who encourages you to make your own decision
  • Who will support you in any changes you decide to make
  • Who will offer to refer you to other help if necessary

HOW COUNSELLING CAN HELP ("School Counselling", NZAC):

Counsellor can help you to

  • Improve how you feel about yourself
  • Think about things in a new way
  • Do things differently
  • Reduce your stress
  • Open new options or directions for yourself
  • Plan and set your goals
  • Explore your thoughts, feelings and behavior
