Welcome to the Library

Location
Baradene Library is centrally located on Level 3 of the Heritage Duchesne Building [1910].  It occupies the site of the original school Chapel and one of the dormitories.  Staff and students using the Library enjoy a magnificent view of the Waitemata Harbour.

Hours
The library is open Monday to Friday 8.00am-4.30pm.  All Year  7 - 10 students have a designated library period.  Staff and students have access to the library  facilities before and after school, and at interval and lunchtime.  The librarians are available to assist individual students and staff with the selection of resources.

Role of the Library
The library is an essential part of the educational programmes of Baradene.  The librarians support the staff and students in providing resources to extend the classroom learning.  We help students to develop independence in their research skills. We provide a friendly stimulating environment to encourage and foster the skills students need for a life time love of reading and learning.

The Collection
Our library is arranged in two large rooms. Room 1 is our Reading Room. It contains our Fiction and Biography collections and is set up with two comfortable bright seating areas.  It also has six large tables with seating for a class.  Room 2 contains our Reference and Non-fiction collection and is set up for individual study and class research.

The library provides learning resources across the curriculum.  We aim to offer a wide range of resources to meet individual learning needs.  We encourage wide reading around curriculum areas and students' interests.  An excellent fiction collection caters to all of our community.

An extensive magazine, newspaper and periodical collection complements the database and internet access offered.

Our Library software is the "Oliver" program which offers a web interface.  Students and staff will have access to this from their classrooms and computer labs.
