Kiwi Sisters

All International Students at Baradene College have the opportunity to take part in the Kiwi Sister programme.  Each year New Zealand girls are invited to apply for the role of “Kiwi Sister”.  The Kiwi Sisters and International Students are matched up and get to know each other at a Kiwi Sister morning tea in Term one.  They are encouraged to invite each other to social activities, such as, going to the movies, shopping, having a meal at each other’s place.  There are also school activities that Kiwi Sisters and their International Sister are urged to attend, such as, a ten-pin bowling evening, the Multi-Cultural Evening,  the International Students’ Soiree.

While the main aim of the Kiwi Sister programme is to provide a platform for New Zealand and International students to gain a better understanding of the life and culture of their “sister”, it is also seen as a support structure for the International students in the school, as well as a leadership opportunity for both “sisters”. It is particularly encouraging to see some firm friendships develop from the programme.
