Emma Sloman has enjoyed a professional performing career for over twenty years. She studied at Auckland University gaining a BA (Music), London and New York. Emma is a former Emerging Artist and now Resident Artist with New Zealand Opera, performing regularly in operas and touring as a member of the core ensemble. She also runs her own private singing studio and has had extensive experience judging regional vocal competitions, school music competitions, vocal coaching for school shows and running youth workshops.
A sought after singer and actress, she has performed musical theatre, oratorio, concerts, chamber operas, corporate and public events. Notable lead roles include Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Mimi (La Boheme), Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), Suor Angelica (Puccini) and several acclaimed performances in chamber operas such as The Consul, The Medium and Turn of the Screw at Opera Factory. Emma has understudied several major roles for NZ Opera including Madama Butterfly, Countess and Mrs Lovett in Sweeny Todd. She has performed with the Auckland Philharmonia, Auckland Chamber Orchestra, Auckland Symphony Orchestra; Canterbury Opera, Auckland Choral Society; Pakuranga Choral Society, guest soprano for Rob Guest, Kiri te Kanawa, Rotorua Lakeside concert with Helen Medlyn, Black Barn Hawkes Bay. At Opera Factory, Emma helps to run the performance programme, youth classes and training opportunties for young and developing singers and has enjoyed seeing many singers progress to further careers overseas.
We have two vocal tutors at Baradene. Emma Sloman teaches within our itinerant programme. Leza Corban provides private lessons which include singing with a micophone.
