This year, the Baradene Alumnae Association are once again elated to have received exceptional nominations that showcase the outstanding achievements of our Alumnae, both in their professional pursuits and their contributions to their communities, all while embodying the Cor Unum spirit. We take immense pleasure in announcing that Dame Helene Quilter (Class of 1971) has been chosen as the recipient of the 2023 Alumnae Meritae Award.

Dame Helene Quilter DNZM QSO is a distinguished and accomplished individual whose life and career have left an indelible mark on her community and beyond. Born with a passion for service and a dedication to making a positive impact, Dame Helene's journey has been one of unwavering commitment and achievement. Throughout her career, Dame Helene has excelled in various fields, demonstrating exceptional leadership and a tireless work ethic. Her contributions to her profession, whether in public service or in support of the arts have earned her recognition and admiration.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dame Helene is known for her deep commitment to the advancement of women, and to the visual and performance arts. She was a long standing member of Diversity Works and she currently serves as Deputy Chair of the New Zealand School of Dance. She has been a dedicated art collector throughout her life.

Dame Helene's commitment to public service is exemplified by her embodiment of the Cor Unum spirit. Her ability to bring people together at the organisation level and inspire collective action is a testament to her leadership and vision.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to society, Dame Helene Quilter was honoured with the prestigious title of Dame, a distinction reserved for those who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and service to their community and nation. Her impact serves as an inspiration to all who aspire to make a positive difference to New Zealand and New Zealanders. 

Dame Helene will be honoured as the recipient of the 2023 Alumnae Meritae Award at the The Alumnae Meritae Award and High Tea event is being held on Sunday 29 October from 2.00pm to 4.00pm in the Baradene Atrium.
