Duchesne Orchestra is for players from Year 7 – 8.  The group performs at regular school concerts each term, award assemblies and end-of-year prize giving, sometimes joining other school groups for festivals or playing out in the community (eg, at Retirement Villages) where the girls’ efforts are always appreciated.

For those girls who play a string instrument, joining Duchesne Orchestra is a great motivator – they will improve skills such as sight-reading and playing in tune more quickly and it is fun to play in a large group.  It’s also a training group for the senior orchestra and as such the players will cover performance technique, ensemble playing, following a conductor, playing harmonies rather than just the tune, building a repertoire of pieces both for enjoyment as well as performance.
